Recommendation
|
Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an agreement with Barry McNamara, M.D.

Background
|
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. This care includes professional ophthalmology services. Dr. Barry McNamara has been providing ophthalmology services to the San Mateo Medical Center for the past six years.

Discussion
|
Ophthalmology services are provided under the general direction of the Director of Hospital and Clinics. This contract maintains continued access to high standards of medical quality as well as a continued model for providing professional medical services here at SMMC. Monitoring and evaluation of the quality of services provided by contractor will be accomplished through peer review by the Quality Improvement Committee and the Medical Executive Committee of the Medical Staff.

This agreement keeps the commitment to Ensure Basic Health and Safety for All and goal number 5: Provide residents access to healthcare and preventive care. The agreement contributes to this commitment and goal by continuing to provide ophthalmology services to county patients.

Fiscal Impact
|
The base contracted rate of $4016.25 per month is a 15% reduction from last year. The term of the agreement is twenty-four months from September 1, 2004 through August 31, 2006. The maximum amount for the term of the agreement decreased from $136,050 to $115,669.38. Funding for FY2004-05 is included in the Adopted Budget for Hospital and Clinics.
