COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, counties are required to provide General Assistance (GA) for indigent county residents who do not qualify for other financial assistance programs, and it is incumbent on the board of supervisors to set the “standard of aid” for GA; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1993, the County of San Mateo adopted a GA standard of aid pursuant to WIC 17000.5 based on a statutory formula that is tied to state CalWorks grant levels; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1997, the County of San Mateo adopted a GA standard of aid pursuant to WIC 17000.5(a) which permits the GA grant to include the value of in-kind aid including, but is not limited to, the monthly actuarial value of up to forty dollars ($40) per month of medical care; and

 

WHEREAS, effective July 1, 2004, the state CalWORKs grant was increased by 2.75% to reflect a Cost of Living Adjustment and was further suspended for 3 months beginning in September 2004 and shall be reinstated at the July 1, 2004 level effective December 1, 2004; and

 

WHEREAS, the Human Services Agency is now requesting that the Board of Supervisors implement the proposed 2.75% increase to the housing portion of the County of San Mateo’s GA standard of aid for those persons not in facilities on the basis of the statutory formula, effective December 1, 2004; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED AND ORDERED, that the General Assistance standard of aid shall be increased by 2.75% effective December 1, 2004 in correlation with the adjustments in the state CalWORKs program; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED, that the 2.75% increase will be to the housing portion of the General Assistance grant for those persons not in facilities.
