THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING APRIL 4-9 AS | ||||
PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK | ||||

WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Board of Supervisors that throughout the country, the week of April 4-9 will be designated as PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK; and | ||||
WHEREAS, over the past 50 years San Mateo County residents have achieved significant increases in life expectancy and reductions in disability and injury; and | ||||
WHEREAS, San Mateo County residents need to be provided with opportunities to take the preventive actions necessary to live stronger and healthier while they live longer, adding more healthy years to life; and | ||||
WHEREAS, health-seeking behavior toward healthy aging may start at any age and should focus on PREVENTING (practicing healthy living); PROTECTING (early detection and screening); and PLANNING (managing one’s health); and | ||||
WHEREAS, city and county elected officials and department heads, community-based organizations and leaders, schools, unions, and local businesses must work together to develop and implement preventive actions that enable county residents to live stronger and healthier, | ||||
WHEREAS, San Mateo County departments plan activities in April to empower residents to live stronger and longer by promoting physical fitness, healthy eating, timely disease detection, stress management and domestic violence prevention through community walks, presentations, sharing of healthy recipes, and a community health fair at Serramonte Mall; and | ||||
WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors supports the development of initiatives and improvement of efforts aimed at promoting health, preventing adverse health outcomes and eliminating disparities in health status; | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors designates the week of April 4-9, 2005 “PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK” throughout San Mateo County. | ||||
