THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 2005 AS

RECOVERY HAPPENS MONTH “JOIN THE VOICES OF RECOVERY:

HEALING LIVES, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the month of September 2005 is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month; and

   

WHEREAS, substance abuse is a serious and treatable public health problem affecting persons of all ages, races, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds; and

   

WHEREAS, untreated alcoholism and drug addiction cost the state’s workplaces billions of dollars in lost productivity, absenteeism and accidents every year; and

   

WHEREAS, the substance abuse treatment and prevention providers have dedicated themselves of San Mateo County have dedicated themselves to the public education and recovery process of the citizens of this county; and

 

WHEREAS, every day in San Mateo County, men women and youth enter treatment for substance abuse, thereby beginning the road to recovery; and

   

WHEREAS, persons in recovery are leading sober productive lives and contribute to the community as a result of their efforts and those of the service providers; and

   

WHEREAS, in recognizing these efforts, the County of San Mateo joins with the providers in educating the community and policy makers about the success of treatment and prevention; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates the month of September 2005 as Recovery Happens Month and urges it’s citizens to “Join the Voices for Recovery: Healing Lives, Families and Communities.”
