______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the Bay Area Recycling Outreach Coalition (BayROC) is a collaboration of the cities and counties of the San Francisco Bay Area that produces regional waste reduction and waste prevention campaigns for the San Francisco Bay Area regional market; and

WHEREAS, BayROC campaigns take advantage of financial economies of scale to reach target audiences via effective broadcast and other media that would be too expensive for individual local governments, including San Mateo County, to undertake alone; and

WHEREAS, San Mateo County has been a key member agency of BayROC from its inception over ten years ago and benefits financially from participating in this regional effort and in terms of achieving and maintaining compliance with state law, AB 939 (the California Integrated Waste Management Act), and this Board desires that San Mateo County continue to contribute to this collaborative effort of local governments to promote responsible waste management behaviors.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED AND DETERMINED that the Director of Public Works is hereby authorized to:

1)

determine the County of San Mateo’s level of financial participation in the campaigns of the Bay Area Recycling Outreach Coalition for fiscal years 2004-05 through 2008-09 with the maximum contribution in any one fiscal year not exceeding $25,000; and
