BACKGROUND:

In August 2003 your Board authorized the President to execute an agreement with the State of California EMS Authority for the first year of a two-year grant to implement an EMS for Children (EMSC) update and expansion program. In August 2004 your Board authorized the President to execute an amendment to that agreement extending it through December 31, 2004. One of the goals of this first year of the grant is to begin to train paramedics in pediatric assessment and emergency management.

DISCUSSION:

Due to already full training schedules for San Mateo County paramedics we were not able to begin the paramedic training in time to completed it December 31, 2004. Extending the agreement through February 28, 2005 will enable us to complete this training.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is extended through February 28, 2005. The funding amount of $54,000 is unchanged. The unexpended funds, $9,589, were included in the EMS Program budget for FY2004/05. There is no net County cost associated with this amended Agreement.
