RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE 2005-2006 LEGISLATIVE SESSION PROGRAM TO INCLUDE A LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL CREATING LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY FOR A 1/8TH CENT SALES TAX DEDICATED TO PARKS AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS IN SAN MATEO COUNTY

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, County staff estimates an un-funded capital projects need of approximately $80 million for the County parks system and most of the cities in San Mateo County also have identified un-met parks and recreation need; and

 

WHEREAS, San Mateo County is one of only two counties in the nine-county Bay Area region not to have a dedicated source of funding for acquisition, development and/or maintenance of park facilities; and

 

WHEREAS, San Mateo County is one of only two counties in the nine-county Bay Area region not to have a dedicated source of funding for acquisition, development and/or maintenance of park facilities; and

 

WHEREAS, residents of San Mateo County have been working since 1992 for tax-based funding for its parks.

 
 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors amends the 2005-2006 Legislative Session Program to include a legislative proposal creating legislative authority for a 1/8th cent sales tax dedicated to parks and recreation activities and programs in San Mateo County.
