SUBJECT:

Anderson Bridge Railing Repair Project – Pescadero Creek Road – Loma Mar Area (Project No. R3V00, F-193 [10F])

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution adopting plans and specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals for the Anderson Bridge Railing Repair Project.

Vision Alignment

Commitment: Ensure the basic health and safety for all.

Goal 7: Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.

The proposed project will replace the temporary railing with a permanent railing and return the bridge to its historic appearance.

Background

County Bridge Number 40, locally known as Anderson Bridge, was constructed in 1937 using a concrete rail and non-mountable curb.

A surficial mudflow off the adjoining hillside during a winter storm damaged portions of the bridge railing. A temporary railing was installed while options for replacing the railing were evaluated.

We contacted the Pescadero Municipal Advisory Council (PMAC), and they requested that the bridge rail be replaced “in kind” in order to maintain the historical appearance of the bridge. A replacement “in kind” railing was then designed.

Discussion

The proposed project will return the bridge to its original configuration.

This project qualifies for a Categorical Exemption pursuant to Section 15301(C), Class 1 of the Public Resources Code (California Environmental Quality Act [CEQA]), and a Notice of Exemption has been filed with the County Clerk Recorder as provided by County guidelines.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.

Fiscal Impact

The estimated cost of construction is $145,000, and Road Funds have been budgeted to finance this work.

There is no impact to the General Fund.
