COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

John C. Martin

Upon His Retirement After 24 Years of Service

With the City of Daly City

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, John C. Martin began his municipal management career in 1974 as a management analyst with Oklahoma City, after serving four years in the U.S. Air Force; and

   

WHEREAS, John rose through the ranks in Oklahoma City, holding six different senior positions before heading west in 1981 and joining Daly City as assistant city manager, becoming deputy city manager in 1987; and

   

WHEREAS, Daly City Councilmembers in 1995 appointed John to succeed his mentor David R. Rowe, who was city manager from 1969 until retirement in 1995; and

   

WHEREAS, under John’s guidance as city manager, Daly City earned a reputation as a forward-thinking, service-oriented organization, open to long-term partnerships with groups public and private; and.

   

WHEREAS, John has been responsible for the daily operations of San Mateo County’s largest, most diverse community, with some 570 full-time employees and an annual budget topping $100 million; and

   

WHEREAS, John has seen Daly City through significant improvement projects, including the refurbishment of all city parks and playgrounds, major expansion of the wastewater treatment facility, the Pacific Plaza complex, the Thornton Beach overlook, the Bayshore Community Center and groundbreaking on the new War Memorial Community Center and the Landmark project.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates John C. Martin upon his retirement after more than 24 years of dedicated, tireless and selfless service to Daly City. In addition, the Board hereby extends to John, his wife Kitty and their son Christopher, sincere wishes for continued happiness and success.
