RESOLUTION
   

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

JOHN LYNCH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH is known on the Coastside as the “Padre” and his remarkable community leadership is exemplified by every member of his family; and

   

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH has taken a leadership role in civic improvement projects too numerous to mention - key among these at least three Measure D’s, Measure A, Measure T, and Measure F; and

 

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH has opened his home and provided sustenance, libations and hospitality for countless grassroots organizing meetings and has even permitted it to be used as a “dormitory” for several young and dedicated community organizers; and

   

WHEREAS, Whereas Padre has personally designed, painted, and posted thousands of grassroots yard signs; replaced them when stolen, rebuked the pesky perpetrators when caught, and organized late night stake-outs to protect the community's first amendment rights; and

   

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH has collected countless signatures in front of Safeway and Long’s in Half Moon Bay for innumerable contentious coastal protection causes; and

   

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH has steadfastly served as a community watchdog on matters of wide-ranging importance and has not hesitated to excoriate, when necessary, the local media and elected representatives for perceived and documented inaccuracies and malfeasance; and

   

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH has served on a multitude of committees not limited to the Committee for Green Foothills, Half Moon Bay Planning Commission, League for Coastal Protection, Coastside Opportunity Center, Neighbors Alliance, Citizens for the Tunnel, Coastal Alliance and Friends of Coastal Open Space; and

   

WHEREAS, JOHN LYNCH’s tireless and enthusiastic leadership in the protection of endangered coastal resources over the last 20 years serves as a continual source of inspiration and has made our Coastside community a much, much better place for this and future generations.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County expresses congratulations and sincere gratitude to JOHN LYNCH on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
