THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING MAY 12, 2005, AS

 

Albert Mario Teglia Day

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Albert Mario Teglia, beloved son of Daly City and lifelong San Mateo County resident, has stood watch over the Peninsula for more than 30 years, helping the forgotten or ignored or those without a voice; and

 

WHEREAS, Al served as a councilmember in Daly City for 20 years, including four terms as mayor, gaining the respect of many and earning the title of “Mr. Daly City;” and

 

WHEREAS, Al also worked for 12 years as a staff aide to former San Mateo County Supervisor Mary Griffin; and

 

WHEREAS, Al spearheaded a series of safety nets for those who receive very little, yet need the most, including low-income families, children and youth, single parents and newly arrived immigrants; and

 

WHEREAS, Al’s programs range from finding suitable employment for young people to providing dental care for low-income children to matching needy families with sponsors; and

 

WHEREAS, in more than a few instances, Al and his immense, compassionate heart will see an unfulfilled request and quietly fill it from his own pocket.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates May 12, 2005, as Albert Mario Teglia Day, and joins countless organizations, families and individuals in thanking Al for his steadfast and selfless guardianship. The Board further extends to Al and his family sincere wishes for continued happiness and success.
