RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AB 450 (YEE), VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES

SALES TO MINORS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, some studies assert that playing violent video games has been found to account for a 13% to 22% increase in adolescents’ violent behavior; and

WHEREAS, AB 450 would prohibit the sale or rental of violent video games, as defined, to persons who are 16 years of age or younger and would provide that a person who violates the act may be liable in an amount of up to $1,000 for each violation; and

WHEREAS, AB 450 does not prohibit the sale or rental of violent video games to parents of persons who are 16 years of age or younger; and

WHEREAS, AB 450 would help San Mateo County ensure basic health and safety for all and work toward Visioning 2010 Goal 6—that children grow up healthy in safe and supportive homes and neighborhoods;

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors by adoption of this resolution does hereby support AB 450.
