THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, on this third day of June, 2005, OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS is honored for his more than twenty-seven years of distinguished service in law enforcement for the Cities of South San Francisco and Millbrae and the County of San Mateo; and

 

WHEREAS, OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS began his career in law enforcement in 1978 as a Police and Fire Dispatcher in South San Francisco before becoming a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Main Jail which led to his hire in 1980 as a Police Officer for the Millbrae Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Burlingame Police Department, OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS served in numerous capacities including Juvenile Officer, Explorer Advisor, Investigator, Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and the city’s first DARE Officer and School Resource Officer; and

 

WHEREAS, OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS is best known for his work with juveniles where he implemented the Youth Fingerprinting Program, excelled as an Investigator in the area of Child Abuse Investigations and developed an expertise in Truancy issues, all of which earned him the nickname “The Juvenile Hunter” by his peers; and

   

WHEREAS, OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS has earned numerous awards and commendations for his accomplishments including Officer of the Year from the Millbrae Police Officers Association, Officer of the Year from the Delinquency Control Institute, Dan Pursuit Award from the California State Juvenile Officers Association, Lyon’s Club Service Award, a Commendation from the State Attorney General and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Millbrae School Board,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County expresses congratulations and sincere gratitude to OFFICER JAMES PAPPAS for more than twenty-seven years of outstanding service to the community, and wishes much happiness and good health upon his retirement.
