Board of Supervisor’s co-sponsor Youth Development Initiative “Youth on Boards” conference

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommend that the Board of Supervisors co-sponsor the Youth Development Initiative “Youth on Boards” conference

Civic engagement -- including voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism, and participation in public discussions of important issues --is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.

BACKGROUND:

On September 10^th, 2005, the Youth Development Initiative will hold the “Youth on Boards” conference to strategize about bringing youth to the boards of non-profit groups. It is the hope of the Youth Development Initiative that this conference will convince these non-profits to include a youth position.

The Youth Development Initiative has asked the Board of Supervisors if it would lend its name to its efforts. Fliers promoting the event will be produced, and it is requested that the Board be named as a sponsor.
