BACKGROUND

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for June 2005 is Rod Moore, Group Supervisor III, in the Probation Department.

DISCUSSION

A County employee since 1997, Rod was promoted to a Juvenile Group Supervisor “lead” position at the Probation Department’s Camp Glenwood in January of 2004. He has demonstrated adaptability in performing in new situations, under pressure, and needs minimal instruction. His attendance, application to his work assignment, organizational skills, and safety practices continuously exceed the standards and expectations. Rod has a positive relationship with his co-workers, and deals with the public in a professional manner.

Rod Moore works collaboratively as a team-player with our Camp Glenwood school department and the various educators who assist in enriching our young men’s lives.

Annually he takes a group of the camp minors to some of the Golden State Warriors’ games, and often spends time coaching and mentoring our neediest clients.

He facilitates the Camp Glenwood “Lifeskills” program. This is a 6-week program geared towards emancipation and preparing youth for independent living.

This program encompasses interviewing skills, role-playing, brainstorming, and group discussions. The students who graduate from the program learn the importance of money management, making and setting goals for career/vocational choices, diversity, tolerance, and cultural issues, etiquette, hygiene, and planning for independent living.

The minors in Rod’s groups are enthusiastic, and eager to participate in his groups. They often cite this program as most helpful in their transition back to the community.

Rod Moore is a valued employee and a role model who makes a major impact in the Camp Glenwood program.

Our County is fortunate to have Rod Moore as one of its outstanding employees.
