BACKGROUND:
On January 4, 2005, your Board adopted a Resolution accepting a grant from the Peninsula Foundation in the amount of $40,000 to fund transportation between San Mateo Medical Center and University of Pacific Dental School (Pacific). This new program was initiated at SMMC to make available to patients the opportunity to receive comprehensive dental care. Adverse dental conditions affect chronic disease and put patients at increased medical risk. Complete dental care cannot be provided at SMMC. Therefore, collaboration with University of the Pacific Dental School was established.

DISCUSSION:
On May 5, 2005, San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) received a grant award of $2,000 to support the expense of creating a database to track information and the progress of patients served by Pacific Dental School.
The Resolution will allow the County to accept the grant award and appropriate the funds that will pay for the development of the database. Information Services Department will create the database.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no net county cost associated with this project. The maximum amount of the award is $2,000. This amount is included in the Recommended Budget for FY2005-06.
