RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SB 798 (SIMITIAN), PRESCRIPTION DRUG COLLECTION AND DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
|
|
WHEREAS, according to Senator Simitian, California wastes hundreds of millions of dollars through the disposal of unused medications, despite the fact that medication costs continue to rise making access to medications more difficult; and
|
|
WHEREAS, SB 798 would provide a county the flexibility to elect to establish, by local ordinance, a repository and distribution program for the purposes of distributing surplus unused medications, donated by specified entities, to persons in need of financial assistance; and
|
|
WHEREAS, San Mateo County has a long established Legislative Program priority to ensure greater flexibility in the delivery of services; and
|
|
WHEREAS, support for AB 798 could further the County’s Visioning commitment to ensure the basic health and safety for all.
|
|
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors by adoption of this resolution does hereby support SB 798 regarding a prescription drug collection and distribution program
