RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SHERIFF TO EXECUTE A SHORT-TERM LEASE TO PROVIDE SPACE FOR A MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, since January 2005, personnel from the Sheriff’s Office have been working collaboratively with investigators from a variety of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to gather intelligence and evidence to support the criminal prosecution of those involved in felonious criminal enterprise in San Mateo County and the surrounding Bay Area, and it is necessary for the investigators to work closely for the purpose of securely, effectively, and efficiently conducting this investigation; and

WHEREAS, the agencies have recently agreed to commit their personnel to a task force, in which the agencies’ personnel will be committed to the investigation on a full time basis; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office has taken a leadership role in the task force and has determined that the investigation will be more effective if it is conducted in an adequate and secure worksite; and

WHEREAS, this Board wishes to authorize the Sheriff to execute a lease to support and conduct the investigation, subject to the County Counsel’s review of the lease as to form.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Sheriff is authorized to execute a lease for rental of the space necessary to conduct the investigation, subject to the County Counsel’s review of the form of the lease, with a maximum term of eighteen (18) months, and with a total cost not-to-exceed Fifty-Thousand dollars ($50,000).
