For Receiving The | ||||
2005 COPE Community Award Presented by the San Mateo County Central Labor Council | ||||

WHEREAS, Michael J. Scanlon in 1999 joined the San Mateo County Transit District as chief executive officer after a national search; and | ||||
WHEREAS, in less than six years, Mike has established a reputation as being a manager who emphasizes hard work, plus mutual respect, fair play, common sense and laughter in the office; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Mike’s down-to-earth approach and sensitivity to other perspectives have greatly contributed to fostering a positive, collaborative partnership between labor and management at SamTrans; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Mike oversees more than 700 employees and a budget topping $250 million, plus he serves as executive directors for the Peninsula Joint Powers Authority and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Mike’s commitment to his adopted Peninsula home is underscored by his service with at least 10 charitable or community groups, plus another 17 transit industry committees and task forces. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Michael J. Scanlon as he receives the 2005 Community Award from the San Mateo County Central Labor Council. The Board hereby extends to Mike and his family sincere wishes for many more years of happiness and success. | ||||
