PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING JULY 8, 2005, AS

Ann Marie Cremen Day

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

   

WHEREAS, Ann Marie “Granny Annie” Cremen is a third-generation San Franciscan, born July 8, 1930, the only child of Marie Vlautin and Eugene Caplis; and

   

WHEREAS, Ann Marie attended St. Agnes Grammar School, Convent of the Sacred Heart High School and in 1952 received teaching credentials from Lone Mountain College, now part of the University of San Francisco; and

   

WHEREAS, Ann Marie taught briefly before marrying the late-Robert Edward Cremen on April 18, 1953, at Mission Dolores and moving to Daly City a year later; and

   

WHEREAS, Ann Marie worked as a teacher’s aide at Thomas Edison Elementary School in Daly City and raised five children: Marianne Virginia; Robert Edward; Elizabeth Ann; E. William and John Caplis; and

   

WHEREAS, in addition to being an avid knitter, world traveler and formidable, champion bridge player, Ann Marie’s favorite activity is gathering family and friends together, especially with her 13 grandchildren: Katie, Meghan, Suzanne, Liane, Jenny, AJ, Ali, Laura, Casey, Jessica, Joey, Haley and Jake; and

   

WHEREAS, Ann Marie continues to be a devoted mother, grandmother and mother-in-law, whose unwavering optimism and adherence to the mantra of “Everything is Beautiful” bring joy to everyone around her.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County hereby designates July 8, 2005, as Ann Marie Cremen Day in San Mateo County. The Board further hoists a collective “Bombay martini up with a twist” and offers a hearty toast, with wishes to Ann Marie and her family for many, many more years of peace, happiness, good times and great health.
