There are nine members on the First Five of San Mateo County (F5SMC) Commission. Five of these are designated positions as defined in the implementing ordinance. The other four are public members appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
Dr. William Ayers resigned from the F5SMC Commission due to health reasons in 2002. He was in a term that ran until December 31, 2004. Following a recruitment and screening process, the Board of Supervisors appointed Patricia Miljanich to fill this unexpired term. She was appointed on March 26, 2002. The term of her appointment was through December 31, 2004. We have recently discovered that the records of her appointment were incorrect and show that she was appointed until December 31, 2005.
It is requested that the Board of Supervisors correct this matter by officially appointing Ms. Miljanich to a term from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2007. This would be Ms. Miljanich’s first full-term as a member of the F5SMC Commission.
Patricia Miljanich has been serving continuously on the F5SMC Commission since March 26, 2002. Her current service is technically a continuation of appointment, but this action of the Board of Supervisors would correct the record and clarify her status.
Ms. Miljanich brings experience to the F5SMC Commission as a Trustee of the San Mateo County Community College District and as a staff person of the Child Advocate program. She has been an invaluable member of the F5SMC Commission and her continued appointment would well serve the children of San Mateo County.
