AN ORDINANCE RE SALARIES FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

The Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, ORDAINS as follows:

SECTION 1. The annual salary of the members of the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo shall be as follows, as adjusted pursuant to Section 2, below, to become effective as to specified supervisorial districts as provided in Section 3, below.

(a)

Effective on January 1, 2007, the annual salary shall be the salary for calendar year 2006, increased by ten percent (10%), and further adjusted for cost of living as provided in Section 2, below.

(b)

Effective on January 1, 2008, the annual salary shall be the salary for calendar year 2007, increased by five percent (5%), and further adjusted for cost of living as provided in Section 2, below.

(c)

Effective on January 1, 2009, the annual salary shall be the salary for calendar year 2008, increased by five percent (5%), and further adjusted for cost of living as provided in Section 2, below.

(d)

Effective on January 1, 2010, the annual salary shall be the salary for calendar year 2009, increased by five percent (5%), and further adjusted for cost of living as provided in Section 2, below.

(e)

Effective on January 1, 2011, and for each year thereafter, the annual salary shall be the annual salary for the prior calendar year adjusted for cost of living as provided in Section 2, below.

SECTION 2. The Controller shall before January 1, 2007, and before January 1 of each year thereafter, determine whether there has been an increase in the cost of living as provided in this section. The salary of each supervisor, as set forth in Section 1, above, shall, as of January 1, 2007, and as of January 1 for each year thereafter, be increased by a percentage of the total salary then being received found by the Controller to approximate to the nearest one-half of one percent (1%) the percentage of annual increase in the cost of living as of November 1^st of each year as shown by the then current Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index for San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area, but such change shall not exceed five percent (5%) per year; however, the amount of any cost-of-living increase in any year which is not met by the maximum annual change of five percent (5%) shall be accumulated to be met by increases in salary in future years; provided further there shall be no decrease in salary under this section.

SECTION 3. The provisions of this Ordinance shall become applicable to specified supervisorial districts as follows, and until such time as the provisions of this Ordinance become applicable to a specified supervisorial district, the provisions of Ordinance No. 3134 shall continue to apply:

(a)

As to members of the Board of Supervisors representing Districts Two and Three, the provisions of this Ordinance shall become applicable at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007. The starting salary will be that specified in Section 1(a), above.

(b)

As to members of the Board of Supervisors representing Districts One, Four and Five, the provisions of this Ordinance shall become applicable at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009. The starting salary will be that specified in Section 1(c), above.

SECTION 4. The provisions of Ordinance No. 3134 shall be of no further force and effect as to any supervisorial district when the provisions of this ordinance become applicable to such district, as provided in Section 3, above.

SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall be effective sixty (60) days from the passage date thereof.
