RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION RELATED TO MECHANISMS REPLACING THE PROPERTY TAX ADMINISTRATION GRANT FUNDS
______________________________________________________________
RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
WHEREAS, California counties statewide receive 19 percent of property tax revenues while they are obligated to pay an average of 73 percent of the costs of property tax administration; and
WHEREAS, in San Mateo County, the County receives 14 percent of property tax revenues; and
WHEREAS, the state has a compelling financial interest in the maintenance of an adequately funded system of property tax administration as it relates to property tax revenues that are used to offset the state’s General Fund obligation to fund K-12 schools; and
WHEREAS, legislation may be introduced in 2005 that addresses these concerns by creating a property tax administration loan program;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of this Board of Supervisors is hereby authorized and directed to review legislation related to mechanisms replacing the Property Tax Administration Grant funds and to communicate the support of the Board of Supervisors.
