THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

KRISTINA DOSS

AS THE SAN MATEO COUNTY 2005 TEACHER OF THE YEAR

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, KRISTINA (TINA) DOSS, a Carlmont High School science teacher had only been teaching five years at the time she was nominated for this countywide recognition by the Sequoia Union High School District and in addition to teaching biotechnology and advanced placement (AP) biology, is Carlmont High School Department’s chairperson; and

   
 

WHEREAS, TINA DOSS helped to write a successful challenge grant that led to Carlmont High School’s first AP science course, which she then went on to teach and, as department chairperson, she has helped bring advanced placement chemistry and physics to the school; and

   
 

WHEREAS, TINA DOSS helped start as well as secure funding for the biotechnology program with a Secondary Specialized Program (SSP) grant and TINA DOSS uses such strategies as interactive learning, manipulatives and kinesthetic activities to teach and reinforce key concepts with students working in pairs as members of small, collaborative communities of four people; and

   
 

WHEREAS, TINA DOSS founded and serves as the advisor to the Carlmont Environmental Club which is beginning its third year and also works with her students on science-related community service projects and as a result has developed a continuing partnership with the San Mateo County Parks Department in which students work with rangers removing invasive plants and maintaining trails as they take hikes and learn about the parks,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, recognizes and congratulates TINA DOSS for being selected as the San Mateo County 2005 Teacher of the Year and wishes her continuing success at Carlmont High School and in her teaching career in the years to come.
