RESOLUTION A) ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM BLUE SHIELD OF CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR $20,000 TO SUPPORT THE SAN MATEO MEDICAL CENTER’S IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERVENTIONS RECOMMENDED BY THE INSTITUTE FOR HEALTHCARE IMPROVEMENT’S “100K LIVES CAMPAIGN”; AND B) AUTHORIZING TH EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT WITH BLUE SHIELD OF CALIFORNIA HOSPITAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR SAN MATEO MEDICAL CENTER TO IMPLEMENT SAID INTERVENTIONS FOR THE TERM AUGUST 1, 2005 TO SEPTEMBER 1, 2006

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the Blue Shield of California Foundation created the Hospital Scholarship Program supporting public, rural, and district hospital participation in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “100K Lives Campaign” to speed implementation of patient safety related interventions in Bay Area hospitals; and

WHEREAS, in June, 2005, the San Mateo Medical Center applied to the Blue Shield of California Foundation Hospital Scholarship Program for a Challenge grant; and

WHEREAS, on July 22, 2005, the Medical Center was awarded a Challenge grant in the amount of $20,000 to implement the interventions identified in the “100K Lives Campaign”; and

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance an Award, reference to which is hereby made for further particulars, whereby the Blue Shield of California Hospital Scholarship Program will award San Mateo Medical Center $20,000 to implement the interventions recommended by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “100K Lives Campaign”; and

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance an Agreement with Blue Shield of California Hospital Scholarship Program for San Mateo Medical Center to implement said interventions for the term August 1, 2005 to September 1, 2006, and

WHEREAS, this Board has been presented with the Award and the Agreement and desires to accept the award and enter into the Agreement.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors be, and is hereby authorized and directed to accept said Award and execute said Agreement for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President's signature thereto.
