SPECIAL NOTICE/HEARING:

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Rich Gordon

SUBJECT:

Letter in Support of California Highway Patrol Grant

RECOMMENDATION:

That the Board of Supervisors support the California Highway Patrol grant for a Corridor Safety Zone

BACKGROUND:

Captain Bridget Lott of the Redwood City California Highway Patrol office sent a letter this office requesting that the Board of Supervisors send a letter to the Office of Traffic, State of California, in support of a grant the CHP is seeking to create a Corridor Safety Zone.

This Corridor Safety Zone is a response, in part, to the number of traffic collisions, including motorcycle accidents, that have taken place on Highways 84 and 35. The Corridor Safety Zone would encompass large portions of these highways.

The grant application itself has not been submitted, but Captain Bridgett Lott has indicated that an early letter from the Board would greatly increase the chances of an eventual grant. As the State CHP office determines the final amount of the grant submittal, I have not indicated an amount in the attached letter.

I request that the Board of Supervisors allow me to sign a letter on behalf of the Board in support of the grant request. The grant would be primarily for supplemental law enforcement and educational awareness.
