RESOLUTION
   

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

THE NEW SAN MATEO HIGH SCHOOL AND

THOMAS C. MOHR CLOCK TOWER DEDICATION

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, in May 2001 it was determined that SAN MATEO HIGH SCHOOL, built in 1927, had serious structural deficiencies rendering it seismically unsafe for students and staff which required immediate closure and moving staff and students into modular facilities until June 2005; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the new SAN MATEO HIGH SCHOOL AND THOMAS C. MOHR CLOCK TWOER has been made possible by major community support through passage of the Measure D bond to modernize San Mateo Union High School District’s six high schools and the Measure C bond amendment allowing for demolition and new construction of seismically safe and modern facilities; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the design of the new SAN MATEO HIGH SCHOOL, pursued by then Superintendent THOMAS C. MOHR and the Board of Trustees, provides 140,000 square feet of new state-of-the-art steel frame structure and a configuration of buildings that creates a quadrangle student activity court and utilizes salvaged portions of the original school including bricks, murals and monuments which have been used to replicate and capture in great detail the Tudor style of the former buildings; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the new SAN MATEO HIGH SCHOOL is a symbol of partnership between school and community focused on the welfare of youth and has received much support from the San Mateo High School Foundation, Parent Teacher Organization, Booster Groups and Alumni who have raised funds necessary to provide enhancements to the campus that include an open air amphitheatre and a new all-weather track and field,

 
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, commends the past and present school staff, students, patents, elected officials, community leaders and the public at large for their unwavering commitment to provide a safe and modern learning and teaching environment and offers congratulations on the Dedication of the new SAN MATEO HIGH SCHOOL and THOMAS C. MOHR CLOCK TOWER.
