RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | |||
JOHN L. MALTBIE FOR THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE | |||

WHEREAS, in September of 2005, JOHN L. MALTBIE was recognized by the International City/County Management Association for 35 years of public service with an ICMA Service Award; and | |||
WHEREAS, after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 and a Master of Arts in 1970 graduating with Great Distinction from San Jose State University with a Political Science degree - Public Administration concentration and fulfilling his duties in the United States Army as First Lieutenant, JOHN L. MALTBIE accepted a position in 1972 as Administrative Analyst for Santa Clara County; and | |||
WHEREAS, in 1974, JOHN L. MALTBIE became the Assistant City Manager in the City of Milpitas and a year later, the City Manager of Milpitas, a city of over 40,000 people and, in 1982, JOHN L. MALTBIE accepted the position of City Manager for Glendale, Arizona, a city of 120,000 people and, in 1985, JOHN L. MALTBIE returned to Santa Clara County with a population of 1.4 million people and stepped into the position of Assistant County Executive; and | |||
WHEREAS, JOHN L. MALTBIE became the County Manager for the County of San Mateo in 1989, bringing with him all of his expertise and innovative thinking which has been used to implement performance-based budgeting and strategic planning for many programs and projects including being the first County in the State to offer school-based children and family services, a MediCal managed care system for medical and mental health patients, a work-first model for welfare reform and a nationally recognized model for Countywide emergency medical services, to name a few, | |||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, recognizes and congratulates JOHN L. MALTBIE for his 35 years of public service and thanks him with deep gratitude for his unwavering dedication to the citizens of the many communities he has served. | |||
