Goal(s): Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.
Providing the funding for the additional construction at the Playground will allow the Parks Division (Parks) of the Environmental Services Agency (ESA) to complete the children’s interactive play structure at one of the County’s most highly used park facilities.
Background | ||||||||
Previous Board Action | ||||||||
Adopted Resolution No. 67496 on August 9, 2005, awarding a contract for the construction of the Playground.
History | ||||||||
The Playground Project’s specifications provided for a base bid plus alternate bids that could be added if sufficient funds became available to do the work. The Contractor is obligated to accept his bid prices for the additive items of work if the work is authorized by the County during the term of the contract.
The following is the additive work:
Additive Bid No. 1: |
Fabrication and Installation of “Play Structure” |
$274,000 |
||||||

||||||
Additive Bid No. 4: |

$65,000 |
||||||
Contingency – Nine Percent (9%) |
$ 33,888 |
|||||||
Total |
$421,888 |
|||||||
Discussion | ||||||||
Funding for the additional work is now proposed to be provided by the transfer of funds from the Parks and Recreation Division’s Acquisition and Development Fund to the County Capital Projects Fund.
Resolutions have been approved as to form by County Counsel.
The Director of Parks and the Director of ESA concur in our recommendations.
Fiscal Impact | ||||||||
The proposed change will increase the original “Not-To-Exceed” amount from $642,000 to $1,063,888 if your Board approves the proposed resolutions. The Parks and Recreation Division’s Acquisition and Development Fund will finance this increase and the additional engineering and inspection costs with $130,016 from funds received from the City of San Mateo (City of San Mateo Redevelopment Bond Funds) and $300,000 from Proposition 40 Grants.
There is no additional impact to the General Fund. |
