THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and

NOTRE DAME de NAMUR UNIVERSITY

IN RECOGNITION OF THE MUSICAL GIFT TO THE COMMUNITY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, in this month of December, two thousand and five, THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NOTRE DAME de NAMUR UNIVERSITY (NDNU) celebrate 20 years of free performances of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” for thousands of Bay Area families; and

 

WHEREAS, THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NDNU’s production features over twenty musical numbers performed by over 80 actors, singers and dancers dressed in colorful Victorian era costumes, presented on Notre Dame Theatre’s stage with a two story set forty-five feet wide and seventeen feet tall; and

 

WHEREAS, THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NDNU offer eight performances free of charge and attendees are asked to donate new toys or non-perishable foods at the theatre for the benefit of Peninsula families; and

WHEREAS, last year THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NDNU collected over three and one half tons of food and more than 1,500 toys which are then given for distribution to various charitable organizations throughout San Mateo County for the benefit of local families who are less fortunate; and

   

WHEREAS, THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NDNU’s volunteer performers, ranging in age from seven to sixty years, are representative of the Bay Area with many years of amateur and professional experience and training in singing, acting and dancing; and

 

WHEREAS, THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NDNU have presented “A Christmas Carol” for the past twenty years, the longest running continuous Christmas production in Northern California,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County extends their congratulations to THE PERFORMANCE GROUP and NDNU for their generous contribution of time and talent in presenting “A Christmas Carol” for the benefit of the community and best wishes for continued success.
