Agreement with Fred Lui, MD

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an Agreement with Fred Lui, MD to provide nephrology services for the period October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2008.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

Dr. Fred Lui has provided nephrology services to the San Mateo Medical Center for the last several years. This discipline serves as the basis for the evaluation and treatment of kidney functions and its diseases, including diabetes, hypertensive kidney disorders, chronic kidney failure and its complications, and end stage renal disease (ESRD). SMMC has a continuous need for nephrology services and Dr. Lui will offer the hospital the continued benefit of an experienced practitioner familiar with the complex nature of the County patient base.

Nephrology services are provided under the general direction of the Chief of Surgery of the San Mateo Medical Center. Monitoring and evaluation of the quality of services provided by contractor are accomplished through peer review by the Quality Improvement Committee and the Medical Executive Committee of the medical staff.

Risk Management and County Counsel have approved the Agreement.

 

TERM AND FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2008. The maximum amount the County shall be obligated to pay Contractor is $360,000. Funds are included in the San Mateo Medical Center’s FY2005-06 Adopted Budget.
