COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Frederick J. Gualco

Upon his retirement after 32 years with the

Daly City Police Department

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, Frederick J. Gualco joined the Daly City Police Department on August 23, 1973, after graduating from the San Francisco Police Academy; and

   

WHEREAS, Fred earned a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in 1971, followed by two years of active duty in the U.S. Army; and

   

WHEREAS, Fred became the department’s chief defensive tactics instructor in 1977, and a year later took over the helm of the Tactical Gang Suppression Unit, which he led until 1983; and from 1986 until his retirement, Fred served with the Detective Division as the department’s Court Officer; and

   

WHEREAS, twice in his outstanding career, 1976 and 1979, Fred was named Officer of the Year by his peers, and he represented them in 1982 National Police Olympics as a boxer in the light-heavyweight class; and

   

WHEREAS, Fred brought honor to his badge and held the respect of his fellow officers by earning 16 commendations for bravery and 82 letters of appreciation from citizens and other agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI National Academy and the district attorney’s offices of San Francisco and San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, Dave has distinguished himself as a law enforcement professional, a mentor to his fellow officers, a protector of Daly City and a role model for its youth.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Frederick J. Gualco upon his retirement from the Daly City Police Department after 32 years of dedicated service. The Board hereby extends sincere wishes to Fred and his family for luck in all future endeavors, plus many years of continuous peace and happiness.
