BACKGROUND

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for February 2006 is Eduardo Jaramillo, Lead Deputy Court Clerk, in the Superior Court of the County of San Mateo.

DISCUSSION

A Court employee since 2000, Eduardo has demonstrated dedication, diligence and professionalism throughout his tenure with the Court. In May 2005, Eduardo approached his supervisor with an idea to improve the production and processing of traffic court calendars. Court management approved the concept and Eduardo then developed what is now known as the Excel Turbo Docket Calendaring Program. This program allows the traffic calendar clerk to simultaneously type and create the traffic court docket and the court calendar. It also numbers each court docket with the line number that is on the calendar. This program has now been implemented throughout the Traffic Division in all three branches of the court.

Prior to the implementation of this program, one clerk in each Branch typed the court dockets and another clerk typed the court calendar. Now, one clerk performs both tasks simultaneously. This has freed up one clerk in each Branch to assist members of the public at the counters. This innovation has significantly improved service to the public by reducing the time required to wait in line to be served. It has also dramatically improved staff productivity, efficiency and service in the courtroom.

Eduardo is now working on a similar program for the trial calendar desk which we hope will also enhance customer service.

Improving levels of public service, courtroom support and staff productivity while reducing related costs are primary values of the Court. Eduardo’s innovativeness and day-to-day work have positively influenced each of these values and represents a “best practice” for both the Court and the County of San Mateo.

Our County is fortunate to have Eduardo Jaramillo as one of its outstanding employees.
