Ordinance Amending Chapter 7.04 of the
San Mateo County Ordinance Code
for Prima Facie Speed Limits

The Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, ordains as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 7.04.010 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Section 7.04.010 Prima Facie Speed Limits

The maximum vehicle speed limit set forth by the California Vehicle Code on County highways or portions thereof within the unincorporated territory of the County of San Mateo shall be decreased by Ordinance of the Board of Supervisors to prima facie vehicle speed limits of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 or 60 miles per hour, whichever is found most appropriate on the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable and safe. Said prima facie speed limits shall be effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected upon said County highways or portions thereof.

SECTION 2.

Section 7.04.025 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby added to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 25 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Along HIGGINS CANYON ROAD beginning approximately 0.95 miles easterly of CABRILLO HIGHWAY and extending to PURISIMA CREEK ROAD.

Ø

Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD over the span of the Crystal Springs Dam Bridge.

Ø

Along SUNSHINE VALLEY ROAD between ETHELDORE STREET and HARTE STREET.

SECTION 3.

Section 7.04.030 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 30 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Ø

Along ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS between HARKINS AVENUE and CAMINO AL LAGO.

Ø

Along the southwesterly side of BAY ROAD between FIFTH AVENUE and SPRING ROAD.

Ø

Along BAY ROAD between KAYNYNE AVENUE and a point approximately 200 feet westerly of SECOND AVENUE.

Ø

Along BAY ROAD between WILLOW STREET and a point approximately 100 feet westerly of KAYNYNE STREET.

Ø

Along BUNKER HILL DRIVE between SKYLINE BOULEVARD and LEXINGTON AVENUE and a point approximately 0.2 miles northwesterly of POLHEMUS ROAD and POLHEMUS ROAD.

Ø

Along CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD between POLHEMUS ROAD and a point approximately 0.5 miles northeasterly of POLHEMUS ROAD.

Ø

Along PARROT DRIVE between the corporate limits of the City of San Mateo and the corporate limits of the Town of Hillsborough.

Ø

Along PESCADERO CREEK ROAD between a point approximately 0.25 miles southwesterly of the westerly intersection of WURR ROAD and a point approximately 250 feet northeasterly of the easterly intersection of WURR ROAD.

Ø

Along RINGWOOD AVENUE between the corporate limits of the City of Menlo Park and BAY ROAD.

Ø

Along SANTA CRUZ AVENUE between ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS and SHARON ROAD.

Ø

Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD between CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD and a point approximately 0.2 miles north of CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD.

Along TICONDEROGA DRIVE between ALLEGHENY WAY and POLHEMUS ROAD.

SECTION 4.

Section 7.04.035 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby added to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 35 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Along AIRPORT STREET between MARINE BOULEVARD and STANFORD AVENUE.

Ø

Along ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS between STOCKBRIDGE AVENUE and WOODSIDE ROAD.

Ø

Along ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS between SANTA CRUZ AVENUE and HARKINS AVENUE.

Ø

Along ALPINE ROAD between a point approximately 0.22 miles southerly of LA MESA DRIVE and a point approximately 200 feet northerly of LA CUESTA DRIVE.

Ø

Along BLACK MOUNTAIN ROAD between GOLF COURSE DRIVE and the corporate limits of the Town of Hillsborough.

Ø

Along CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD between SKYLINE BOULEVARD and POLHEMUS ROAD.

Ø

Along EDGEWOOD ROAD between the easterly intersection of CORDILLERAS ROAD and the corporate limits of the City of Redwood City.

Ø

Along HARBOR BOULEVARD between OLD COUNTY ROAD and the ROUTE 101 (BAYSHORE) FREEWAY.

Along HIGGINS CANYON ROAD beginning approximately 0.5 miles easterly of CABRILLO HIGHWAY and extending approximately 1 mile easterly.

Ø

Along HILLSIDE BOULEVARD between the westerly property line of Hillside School and the corporate limits of the Town of Colma.

Ø

Along INDUSTRIAL ROAD between HARBOR BOULEVARD and the corporate limits of the City of San Carlos.

Ø

Along MARSH ROAD between the corporate limits of the Town of Atherton and FLORENCE ROAD.

Ø

Along OBISPO ROAD between AVENUE ALHAMBRA and CORONADO STREET.

Ø

Along PESCADERO CREEK ROAD between a point approximately 0.13 miles easterly of BEAN HOLLOW ROAD and CLOVERDALE ROAD.

Ø

Along PURISIMA CREEK ROAD beginning approximately 1 mile easterly of VERDE ROAD and extending easterly approximately 2.4 miles.

Ø

Along RALSTON AVENUE between TOWER ROAD and CHRISTRIAN DRIVE.

Ø

Along SAN BRUNO AVENUE EAST between a point approximately 0.16 miles southwesterly of SOUTH AIRPORT BOULEVARD and SOUTH AIRPORT BOULEVARD.

Ø

Along SAND HILL ROAD between the corporate limits of Menlo Park and a point approximately 0.14 miles northeasterly of the intersection of SHARON PARK DRIVE.

Ø

Along SANTA CRUZ AVENUE between SAND HILL ROAD and ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS.

Ø

Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD between a point approximately 200 feet southerly of SUMMIT DRIVE and HILLSIDE LANE.

Along SOUTH AIRPORT BOULEVARD between SAN BRUNO AVENUE EAST and a point approximately 0.2 miles northwesterly of SAN BRUNO AVENUE EAST.

Along VALPARAISO AVENUE between ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS and the corporate limits of the Town of Atherton.

SECTION 5.

Section 7.04.040 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 40 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Along PORTOLA ROAD between FAMILY FARM ROAD and SAND HILL ROAD.

Ø

Along SAND HILL ROAD between PORTOLA ROAD and WHISKEY HILL ROAD.

Ø

Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD between a point approximately 0.16 miles north of BUNKER HILL DRIVE and the southerly abutment of the CRYSTAL SPRINGS DAM BRIDGE.

Ø

Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD between the northerly abutment of the CRYSTAL SPRINGS DAM BRIDGE and CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD.

SECTION 6.

Section 7.04.045 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby added to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 45 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Ø

Along ALPINE ROAD between a point approximately 0.38 miles southerly of JUNIPERO SERRA BOULEVARD and a point approximately 200 feet northerly of LA CUESTA DRIVE.

Ø

Along EDGEWOOD ROAD between CANADA ROAD and the easterly intersection of CORDILLERAS ROAD.

Ø

Along GUADALUPE CANYON PARKWAY between a point approximately 0.42 miles northeast of PRICE STREET and the corporate limits of the City of Brisbane.

Ø

Along HIGGINS CANYON ROAD beginning at the intersection of CABRILLO HIGHWAY and extending easterly approximately 0.5 miles.

Ø

Along POLHEMUS ROAD in the unincorporated areas between TOWER ROAD and CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD.

Ø

Along SKYLINE FRONTAGE ROAD between GOLF COURSE DRIVE and CHATEAU DRIVE.

Ø

Along WESTBOROUGH BOULEVARD between the corporate limits of the City of South San Francisco and JUNIPERO SERRA BOULEVARD.

SECTION 7.

Section 7.04.050 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 50 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Ø

Along CANADA ROAD between PALM CIRCLE ROAD and STATE ROUTE 92.

Ø

Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD between a point approximately 0.2 miles north of CRYSTAL SPRINGS ROAD and GOLF COURSE DRIVE.

SECTION 8.

Section 7.04.055 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code is hereby added to read as follows:

Prima facie speed limits of 55 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

Ø

Along SAND HILL ROAD between WHISKEY HILL ROAD and the corporate limits of the City of Menlo Park.

SECTION 9.

Sections 7.04.060 through 7.04.670 of the San Mateo County Ordinance Code are hereby repealed.

SECTION 10.

This Ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days from the passage date thereof.
