Endangered and Threatened Species Day | ||||

WHEREAS, we have a responsibility to our children and future generations to be good stewards of our environment and natural resources and to leave behind a legacy of protecting endangered and threatened species; and | ||||
WHEREAS the strength and vitality of the human environment is closely linked with the health of all the species and the environments they live in; and | ||||
WHEREAS, San Mateo County contains rich and diverse animal and plant habitats with threatened and endangered species such as Mission Blue Butterfly, San Francisco Garter Snake, Bay Checkerspot Butterfly, Red-legged Frog, Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse, Marbled Murrelet, Western Snowy Plover, Coastal Steelhead, San Francisco Popcorn- flower, Clapper Rail, San Mateo Thornmint, San Bruno Mountain Manzanita, Pescadero Clarkia, San Mateo Wooly Sunflower and San Francisco Lessingis; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Endangered and Threatened Species Day can help the citizens of San Mateo County learn about the rich environment that we live in and how to protect it; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Endangered and Threatened Species Day can encourage the citizens of San Mateo County to explore the county parks, preserves and natural areas within San Mateo County; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Endangered and Threatened Species Day can help citizens join with others to have a strong voice for protecting endangered and threatened species and the natural habitats they live in; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Sequoia Audubon of San Mateo County is committed to preserving endangered and threatened bird species in San Mateo County. Sequoia Audubon Society plans to educate the citizens of San Mateo County about the natural and diverse animal and plant habitats by presenting the Endangered Species Day activities on February 26, 2006 to be held at Woodside Town Hall. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates the 26th of February, 2006 Endangered and Threatened Species Day. | ||||
FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that copies of this proclamation be transmitted to President George W. Bush, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congressman Tom Lantos, Congresswoman Anne Eshoo, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, after it is adopted. | ||||
