THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAIMING

 

      MARCH 2006

        AS

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, women’s issues and their struggle for equality are interwoven into American and California history; and

   
 

WHEREAS, throughout history, women of all backgrounds have been at the forefront of major progressive social change movement; and

   
 

WHEREAS, women enhance the social, economic, political and cultural lives of their communities; and

   
 

WHEREAS, in March of 1987, a joint National Women’s History Month Resolution was approved by the United States Senate and House of Representatives; and

   
 

WHEREAS, in March of 1986, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors formally recognized Women in Management (now Women in County Government) which has taken a leadership role in removing cultural and structural barriers to women’s career development by creating programs to enhance the talents and skills of women; and

   
 

WHEREAS, Women in County Government promotes a culture that values diversity, celebrates women’s accomplishments and supports community-based organizations that benefit women through the Annual Recognition and Charity Event and promotes the talents of our county employees, especially women; and

   
 

WHEREAS, both the Commission on the Status of Women and Women in County Government support the accomplishments and contributions of women in cultural, economic, civic and leadership development,

 
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates the month of March as WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH in San Mateo County.
