Goal 7: Maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors.

The proposed project will improve the condition of the above-mentioned roads for the benefit of the public.

Background

Previous Board Action

Authorized the Director of Public Works to:

a)

submit an application through the City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) for Local Streets and Roads Shortfall Second Cycle Federal Funding (Program Funding) that is made available through the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), to help finance the above referenced project; and

b)

execute agreements with cities, utility companies and special districts for work less than $50,000 proposed to be done in conjunction with County road projects.

History

We have been notified by C/CAG that the project qualified for up to $450,000 in federal funding.

Discussion

The proposed project, totaling approximately 1.2 miles in length, consists of repairing failed pavement areas, resurfacing a portion of the various streets with asphalt concrete, adjusting the facilities of the West Bay Sanitary District and California Water Service Company as requested by these agencies, and resurfacing a portion of Valparaiso Avenue as requested by the City of Menlo Park. The roads to be resurfaced are shown on Exhibit “A”.

The project qualifies for a Categorical Exemption pursuant to Section 15301 of the Guidelines for Implementation of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and a Notice of Exemption has been filed with the County Clerk Recorder as provided by County guidelines.

A resolution has been approved as to form by County Counsel.
