Resolution Authorizing the Director of Public Works to Install Brighter Street Lights on Middlefield Road from the City Limits of the City of Redwood City at MacArthur Avenue South to Fifth Avenue - North Fair Oaks Area

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, acting as the governing board of the Menlo Park Highway Lighting District, that

 

WHEREAS, 150 watt street lights have been installed on Middlefield Road from Fifth Avenue south to the Atherton Town Limits at Encina Avenue, in conjunction with an overall improvement plan for the Middlefield Road Corridor; and

 

WHEREAS, an underground utility district has been formed over the section of Middlefield Road from the city limits of the City of Redwood City at MacArthur Avenue south to Fifth Avenue; and

 

WHEREAS, the conversion of the existing low watt street lights in this area is proposed as part of the undergrounding of utilities in this area; and

 

WHEREAS, the undergrounding of utilities has been delayed for at least an additional year; and

 

WHEREAS, business owners on Middlefield Road have requested that brighter street lights be installed on this section of Middlefield Road at this time to improve safety lighting in this area; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has determined that the existing 50 to 70 watt light fixtures can be replaced with 150 watt light fixtures; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has considered and concurs in the request of the business owners.

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that:

 

The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized:

 

    1.

to replace the existing 50 and 70 watt lighting fixtures on the section of Middlefield Road from the city limits of the City of Redwood City at MacArthur Avenue to Fifth Avenue, with 150 watt high pressure sodium vapor lighting fixtures; and

 

2.

to finance the cost of said work and subsequent energy charges from the funds of the Menlo Park Highway Lighting District.
