RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A MORE LIVABLE
SAN MATEO COUNTY WORK GROUP

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors with Children NOW, Hospital Consortium of San Mateo County, San Mateo County Farm Bureau, Housing Leadership Council, Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, SAMCEDA, San Mateo County Transit District, San Mateo County League of Women Voters, San Mateo County Medical Association, San Mateo County School Boards Association, Sustainable San Mateo County and Kaiser Permanente all came together on March 13, 2006 to sponsor More Livable San Mateo County;

 

WHEREAS, San Mateo County Environmental Health, Environmental Services Agency, Health Department, Housing Department and Human Services Agency all worked together as County co-sponsors of this important event to promote healthy communities;

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Jackson, a distinguished public health official and expert on the damaging effects that our “super sized” society has on our lives provided facts, figures and insight into the societal and personal costs and most importantly, provided a call to action; and.

 

WHEREAS, the 250 participants participated in 45-minutes of facilitated discussion identifying important actions the San Mateo County community can take to improve the community health;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors supports the important work begun at More Livable San Mateo County and hereby established a More Livable San Mateo County Work Group that will be comprised of representation from the broad community sponsors and participants; responsible for developing an implementation strategy and plan for the prioritized actions to promote healthy communities throughout San Mateo County and for reporting progress realizing the plan.
