RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AN AMENDMENT
TO THE AGREEMENT WITH HEALTH ADVOCATES, LLP
FOR COST RECOVERY SERVICES

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the process of locating discharged patients, obtaining documents and representing the patient at an administrative hearing is very specialized, lengthy, and time consuming;

 

WHEREAS, without a contractual arrangement for these services, many inpatient accounts would be charged to Medically Indigent Adult (MIA) funds and be otherwise uncollectible;

 

WHEREAS, on June 10, 2003, your Board approved an Agreement with Health Advocates for cost recovery services. The term of the Agreement was two years, from May 1, 2003 to April 30, 2005, with an option for a third year, and a maximum amount of $600,000; and

 

WHEREAS, on April 26, 2005, your Board approved an Amendment to the Agreement, extending the term to April 30, 2006 and increasing the maximum amount to $1,050,000; and

 

WHEREAS, due to Health Advocates’ success in cost recovery services during the three-year term of the agreement, the maximum amount needs to be increased by $513,000; and

 

WHEREAS, the parties wish to further amend the Agreement by increasing the amount by $513,000 changing the Agreement Obligation from $1,050,000 to $1,563,000; the term of the Agreement, May 1, 2003 to April 30, 2006, remains the same; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has been presented with a form of the Amendment to the Agreement and desires to enter into the Amendment to the Agreement.

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of this Board of Supervisors be, and is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Amendment to the Agreement for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President's signatures thereto.
