PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY AS | ||||
VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH | ||||

WHEREAS, the people of our community have great appreciation and admiration for the many local men and women who have served the country in the armed forces in order to protect and preserve the freedoms enjoyed by our community and by all Americans; and | ||||
WHEREAS, some VETERANS have encountered obstacles in readjusting to civilian life; and | ||||
WHEREAS, VETERANS, many of them disabled, represent a significant share of California’s homeless population; and | ||||
WHEREAS, VETERANS possess a wide variety of valuable job qualifications and skills, including experience, maturity, leadership, and loyalty, that make them ideal candidates for employment; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the Human Services Agency staff, in conjunction with the Local Veterans Employment Representatives from the Employment Development Department, are committed to ensuring that VETERANS receive all the services and programs to which they are entitled, and achieve self-sufficiency, | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County do hereby proclaim May 2006 as VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH in San Mateo County, and urge all local employers, organized labor, veterans organizations, and other government leaders to support this worthy campaign to increase employment opportunities for the men and women who have faithfully served our nation in the military. | ||||
