BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

Bay Area Urology Group has provided urology services to the San Mateo Medical Center for the last several years. In particular this discipline serves as a basis for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the male and female urinary tract, including correction of bladder obstructions, as well as of the male reproductive organs, including testing for prostate cancer. This specialty also addresses identification and dissolution of kidney stones (lithotripsy) and chronic systemic disorders which have common related problems of the urethra, including End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The Bay Area Urology Group offers the hospital the benefits of experienced practitioners familiar with the complexity of the County patient base.

Contractor productivity is being measured by the current Medicare Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) Relative Value Work Units (RVUs), an industry-wide measurement of medical care that indicates the level of quality standards being met by an individual practitioner. This Agreement includes a 5% increase in work at the same level of the previous contract.

This agreement includes all provisions that are required by county ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination, equal benefits and jury service policy. Risk Management and County Counsel have approved the Agreement.

TERM AND FISCAL IMPACT:

The term of the Agreement is March 1, 2006 through August 31, 2007. The maximum amount the County shall be obligated to pay Contractor is $474,398.68. Funds are included in the San Mateo Medical Center’s FY2005-06 Adopted Budget.
