RECOMMENDATION:
|
Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an Agreement with the Ear, Nose, Throat Group of San Mateo to provide ENT Medical services for the period April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2008 for $623,673.68.

BACKGROUND:
|
The Ear, Nose, and Throat Group of San Mateo have provided ENT Medical services to the patients of San Mateo Medical Center for the last several years. These services cover the diagnosis and treatment of the developmental, degenerative, infectious, and traumatic conditions of the Eustachian tube. Such conditions include hearing loss and communication disorders, salivary gland diseases and tumors, sinusitis and upper respitory infections, tonsillitis, thyroid gland surgery, and malignant diseases of the head and neck. Patients treated at SMMC have a continuous need for such ENT care services and the Ear, Nose, and Throat Group of San Mateo offers the hospital the benefits of an experienced provider familiar with the complex nature of the County’s patient base.

DISCUSSION:
|
ENT medical services are provided under the general direction of the Chief of Surgery. Monitoring and evaluation of the quality of services provided by contractor are accomplished through peer review by the Quality Assurance Committee and the Executive Committee of the medical staff. The current Agreement represents a 2% increase over the amount for total contracted ENT services in FY04-05.
County Counsel and Risk Management have reviewed and approved the terms of this Agreement. The Agreement includes all provisions that are required by county ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination, equal benefits and jury service policy.

FISCAL IMPACT:
|
The maximum amount County shall be obligated to pay Contractor under this Agreement is $623,673.68. Funds were included in the San Mateo Medical Center’s FY2005-06 Adopted Budget and will be included in the future fiscal year budgets.
