Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an Amendment to the Agreement with James Meier, M.D. to provide obstetrics and gynecology services for the period April 1, 2006 through June 30, 2006.

Dr. James Meier has provided obstetrics and gynecology services to the San Mateo Medical Center for the last several years. In particular these disciplines serve as the basis for routine evaluation and treatment of pre-, intra-, and post partum care (obstetrics) and the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of uterine, ovarian, endometrial, and vaginal disease (gynecology). SMMC has a continuous need for obstetrics and gynecology services and Dr. Meier and his group will offer the hospital the benefits of experienced practitioners familiar with the complex nature of the County’s patient base.
The contract amendment for OBGYN services expired March 31, 2006. The current amendment is a continued extension while the San Mateo Medical Center finalizes a longer term contract that takes into account a contract model that measures relative value unit (RVU) productivity as well as FTE equivalents for the OB-GYN service. Because this is a 3 month extension of the current Amendment there is no increase over the previous rates of reimbursement. The same group of eight physicians providing services with Dr. James Meier under this contract also remains unchanged.
The Amendment includes all provisions that are required by county ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination, equal benefits and jury service policy. Risk Management and County Counsel have also approved the Amendment.

The term of the Amendment is April 1, 2006 through June 30, 2006. The maximum amount the County shall be obligated to pay Contractor and those physicians providing services with him under this contract is $514,000. Funds are included in the San Mateo Medical Center’s FY2005-06 Adopted Budget.
