Three (3) Appointments to the Commission on Aging

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that Aurea Cruz of Colma, Sandra Lang of Burlingame and Susie Pearsall of Menlo Park be appointed to the Commission on Aging. If appointed, Ms. Cruz’s term is effective immediately to complete a term that expires June 30, 2007.

The appointments of Ms. Lang and Ms. Pearsall are each for three (3) years, ending June 30, 2009.

BACKGROUND:

The Commission on Aging currently has four seats either already vacant or about to become vacant. Each of the three above-named applicants is well qualified to meet the needs of the Commission.

Ms. Cruz has a background in senior healthcare, plus experience as a care provider. Her volunteer work with Self-Help for the Elderly is significant, and her Filipino background will help lend insights into that community.

Ms. Pearsall has served as director of the Gerontological Program Committee with the Peninsula Volunteers, and has extensive knowledge of countywide issues pertaining to seniors.

Ms. Lang has an insurance background and has conducted seminars on health, aging and retirement issues. Her knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicare, Social Security and long-term care will be a great asset to the Commission.
