TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Chris Flatmoe, CIO/Director of Information Services

SUBJECT:

Appropriation Transfer Request to Fund the Purchase of e-Gov Hardware and Software to replace equipment nearing end-of-service life

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution:

Authorizing an Appropriation Transfer Request in the amount of $193,050 from reserves to fixed assets for replacement of aging e-Gov equipment.

VISION ALIGNMENT:

Commitment: Responsive, effective and collaborative government.

Goal 20: Government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain.

This installation contributes to this goal by following a planned upgrade path for critical web hardware thereby ensuring continued services availability.

BACKGROUND:

In FY 2001-02, the Board funded the e-Gov project. One of the primary goals of the original e-Gov project was to provide a web presence for the County that includes content from every County department while having a common look on all e-Gov web pages. The hardware and software for the original e-Gov project was acquired in early 2002 and it is reaching the end of its service life.

DISCUSSION:

Many County departments are currently providing services via e-Gov that would normally require a resident to travel to a County office. Over the next two years it is anticipated that the number of County services provided via e-Gov will double. In anticipation of an increase in e-Gov use, ISD initiated the

e-Gov2 project. Whereas the original e-Gov project was focused on delivering content via the web,

e-Gov2 will focus on providing additional County services via the web. The Web Advisory Group has been working to define the requirements for the new infrastructure and has defined the hardware and software requirements.

ISD is requesting the ATR in order to purchase the hardware and software required to implement

e-Gov2.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total amount for this ATR is $193,050. Funding is available in ISD’s e-Gov replacement reserves.
