THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING

James R. Granucci

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, James R. Granucci started a lifelong dedication to public service career in 1966 as a deputy with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and two years later as a patrol officer with the Redwood City Police Department; and

   

WHEREAS, through the years Jim selflessly served and protected his community, earning numerous awards and accolades, including San Mateo County Police Officer of the Year in 1970; and

   

WHEREAS, Jim eventually became Redwood City’s interim police chief in 1997, before joining the San Carlos Police Department as chief until his 2004 retirement; and

   

WHEREAS, Jim’s retirement granted him even more time to direct toward a multitude of community-based non-profit groups, some related to law enforcement, and some unrelated; and

   

WHEREAS, Jim has worked tirelessly through police chiefs associations locally and statewide, plus with service agencies, including the San Carlos Parks and Recreation Commission, the Center for Abuse Prevention in San Mateo County and the Domestic Violence Council; and

   

WHEREAS, Jim’s 1990-2006 role as chair of the San Mateo County Children’s Fund advisory committee has been pivotal in the success of the fund, its longevity and its mission to assist youth and families throughout the Peninsula.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County recognizes and commends James R. Granucci for four decades – and counting – of unmatched service to his profession, community, city and county. Jim’s work has benefited countless people throughout San Mateo County and the Board hereby extends in gratitude and adds sincere wishes for many, many more years of continuing success and excellence.
