COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING

Karl Schoenstein

Upon his retirement after 35 years with the

Daly City Fire Department

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Karl Schoenstein retired from the Daly City Fire Department on March 31, 2006, as a Fire Captain with 35 years of exemplary service; and

   

WHEREAS, Karl first joined the department on March 16, 1971, and rose through the ranks to become a Fire Captain on Feb. 1, 1978, and was appointed Acting Battalion Chief on March 30, 1984, and oversaw the conduct of many incidents throughout his career; and

   

WHEREAS, Karl was named Firefighter of the Year in 1987 and over the years has received numerous accolades from the public and colleagues, including departmental commendations for actions during a March 21, 1975, fire and as the Incident Commander during the July 4, 1992, fire at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Church; and

   

WHEREAS, Karl has donated countless hours toward training fellow firefighters, plus outreach to the community, specially as a member of the Bay Area Regional Earthquake Preparedness Project Grant Committee in 1986; and

   

WHEREAS, Karl’s dedication, leadership and professionalism have earned and held the respect of his peers and remain tremendous examples for others to emulate.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Karl Schoenstein upon his retirement from the Daly City Fire Department after more than three decades of selfless service to Daly City and northern San Mateo County. The Board hereby extends its gratitude and adds sincere wishes to Karl and his family for many, many years of continuing peace and happiness.
