Resolution Approving the Facilities to be Connected to a Fiber Network to be Constructed by the Cable Television Provider Serving Portions of San Mateo County, and Authorizing the Director of Public Works to Notify the Cable Television Provider of Said Facilities

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, this Board authorized the President of the Board to execute a side letter and a 15-year, non-exclusive Cable System Franchise Agreement (collectively the Agreement) with Comcast of California, IX, Inc., Comcast of California/Colorado/Florida/Oregon, Inc., Comcast of California/Illinois, LP and Comcast of California/Colorado/Washington, LP (collectively “Comcast”) which included the provision for Comcast financing and constructing a fiber network (INET) to specific County facilities/campuses, to be determined by the County within 90 days of the execution of the Agreement; and

 

WHEREAS, a committee consisting of representatives from the County Library, Public Works, the Office of Education, the Sheriff, and Information Services Department (ISD) staff that service the Medical Center, Health Services, and the Human Services Agency was convened to discuss possible uses of an INET; and

 

WHEREAS, the committee concluded that it would be beneficial for the County to have its facilities connected to the INET, as it will provide a dedicated connection between the County and the other agencies that does not currently exist; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of the Information Services Department and the Director of Public Works have recommended that the County Government Center – Redwood City; Human Services Agency – Harbor Boulevard, Belmont; Tower Road Campus (Youth Services Facility); San Mateo Medical Center/Health Services(37th and 39th Avenues in San Mateo); and the County Office of Education (Redwood Shores, Redwood City) be connected to the INET; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has considered and concurs in the recommendation of the Director of the Information Services Department and the Director of Public Works.

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that this Board hereby:

approves of having the fiber network of Comcast extended to serve the County Government Center – Redwood City; Human Services Agency – Harbor Boulevard, Belmont; Tower Road Campus (Youth Services Facility); San Mateo Medical Center/Health Services(37th and 39th Avenues in San Mateo); and the County Office of Education (Redwood Shores, Redwood City) which shall be financed by Comcast as provided for in said Agreement previously executed by the County and Comcast as referenced herein; and

directs the Director of Public Works to notify Comcast of the list of facilities to be connected to the INET as herein approved by this Board.
