RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | ||||
SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY10th Anniversary Publication of Indicators for a Sustainable San Mateo County | ||||

WHEREAS, SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY is dedicated to the long-term health of our county's economy, environment and social equity by educating about sustainability; and | ||||
WHEREAS, SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY was established in 1992 by a group of San Mateo County citizens who sought to create a broader awareness of the sustainability concept, and in 1996 began operating as a nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to educating the community about sustainability; and | ||||
WHEREAS, SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY hosts an annual Sustainability Awards program to recognize San Mateo County businesses, community groups, and individuals that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to bringing sustainable practices to their work; and | ||||
WHEREAS, since 1997, SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY has published an annual report on key indicators of San Mateo County’s health with the aim to raise awareness of our county’s performance on sustainability measures, and to improve our ability to make sound decisions for the benefit of future generations; and | ||||
WHEREAS, 2006 marks SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY’s 10th Annual indicators report, thereby demonstrating the organization’s continuing commitment to the original goal and the report continues to be the only countywide report that tracks major economic, social, and environmental issues in one document, distributed widely to the County, city governments, libraries, chambers of commerce, and community groups; and | ||||
WHEREAS, through its annual indicators report and sustainability awards program, SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY has managed to encourage thousands of San Mateo County leaders and citizens to think about the long-term consequences of their policies and practices, and the information and data presented in the indicators report gives policymakers resource material they need to make informed decisions; and | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County extend their congratulations to SUSTAINABLE SAN MATEO COUNTY upon the 10th Anniversary publication of Indicators for a Sustainable San Mateo County and best wishes for continued service to the community. | ||||
